In January of this year, I was checking my emails and something very interesting caught my eye. I clicked on the message from the Media group. It stated that Dixon Golf had introduced the world’s first 100% recyclable golf ball. I found this quite interesting since I knew that the country had to move in a “GREEN” direction and that it was going to be here to stay. Golf is a passion for me so I decided to pick up the phone. I contacted the company and Glen Coombe who reps the Carolinas and was given an opportunity to concentrate on Dixon Golf in North Carolina. I became fascinated with the Dixon Earth ball and once I played it I knew this was going to be something special. Not only does the ball out distance other brands, it has the performance to compete with any golf ball out there. You don’t just haphazardly put a golf ball together and hope it can be marketed. A lot of thought process went into the design and manufacture of this golf ball. The fact that the ball outperforms a Titleist Pro V1, a Nike One and a Callaway Tour ix under launch conditions is amazing.
As a representative for Dixon Golf and their “GREEN” initiative, I have taken some steps to be environmentally friendly in other areas. In addition to recycling glass, cans, newspapers, mixed paper, plastics and cardboard, we have installed tankless water heaters inside our house which only heat water as needed. This saves up to 70% in gas usage. We have put in water collection barrels outside which save runoff water in order to water plants and lawn in drought season. We have put in Energy Star appliances which save up to 40% on electric bills. We use no air conditioning. Instead we use passive solar ideas. We open the house at night and close it during the day. And we use ceiling fans. On a decorative note, all of our outdoor lighting is solar powered, even our birdbath water fountain.
This is an exciting time to be involved with a company that is at the forefront of the industry with the most unique product and the most innovative Recycling program for golf shops and specialty retailers. I predict that a lot more golf courses will come on board with Dixon as they are realizing that they have to “GO GREEN” themselves. Dixon Earth. Great ball whose time has come.
